Guidelines for our environmental policies
October 30, 2016
The protection of the environment is of vital interest to us.
We are permanently aware of the impairment and dangers a repair shipyard brings along with regard to the environment. That is the reason why sustainable protection of the environment is one of the cornerstones of our management system. Thus, environmental topics like energy efficiency, reduction of emissions and recycling are in the centre of our policies.
The protection of the environment is a task for everybody.
Our staff’s behaviour is at any time compliant with our environmental policies. Every single individual has committed itself to take care of the environment.
We continuously improve our measures for protection of the environment
As a shipyard we are subjected to a large number of laws and regulations for the protection of the environment. Our primary goal is to fulfil these requirements in terms of holding threshold values and the like. Additionally, we permanently look out for possibilities to further improve our environmental protection system. To this end, we regularly check the elements of our system with regard to their sustainability. As we are a company governed by the Federal Immission Control Ordinance we are obligated to publish all relevant environmental data and information. This is accomplished by feeding the data into a special internet platform (“BUBE-online”). As a result, all interested parties are enabled to get insight in our environmental endeavours.
We treat our resources with care
The conservative treatment of energy and resources is imperative for the repair works on ships. This is true for both ecological and economic reasons. Fresh water is one of these very valuable resources that have to be consumed as careful as possible. This also applies for the huge harbour water masses which are utilized for flooding and draining of the dry docks. There, substantial efforts have been made in order to avoid pollution of the harbour water from, for instance, grit blasting of a ship’s hull. It is one of a repair shipyard’s primary tasks to further reduce any kind of pollution at its premises by using “Best Technologies Available”.
We use energy-efficient technologies
We are continuously searching for energy-efficient technologies in order to replace outdated machinery with low efficiency. This is particularly valid for the electrical power supply of the dry docks and the berths. But we also include the workshops and halls in our efforts to reduce energy consumption.
