At EMDEN DOCKYARD we see Commercial Ships as any vessel that can carry cargo commercially, be it bulk ore or grain, containers or dredged mud. After more than 110 years of building, repairing and refitting vessels of these types this segment of the maritime world holds no secrets to our experienced team of workers and project managers.
Specialised in Repair
From the very beginning of its business, the Nordseewerke Shipyard, predecessor of EMDEN DOCKYARD, was also active in the field of ship repair, or more precisely, repair of commercial ships. For many years the smaller ship repair division made a living in the shade of the much larger new-building branch which at its peak employed over 5,000 workers. This situation only changed in recent years with the slow demise of large scale new building of commercial ships in Europe and when EMDEN DOCKYARD was set up as a pure repair dockyard.
A broad portfolio
Now, the repair and refit of commercial ships of all kind are our “bread-and-butter-product”. It is the largest segment of our repair portfolio and comprises of multi cargo vessels, container ships, hopper dredgers and tankers. We conduct all necessary works for class renewal. And we carry out steel works for hull repairs and are responsible for the paint works.
